Although the work of the Holy Innocents Ministry was, at times, the source of horrible nightmares for me and probably contributed to a lung problem which I acquired during those years, the ministry was never anything less than a sacred honor …. a blessing.  In contrast to the tortured way in which their lives were destroyed, even before they could draw their first breath, we know that each of these 525 children is now with God.  Further, I believe that each is made perfect and resting quietly in the lap of the Blessed Mother, Queen of Heaven, in eternity's biggest rocking chair.  As if Heaven wasn't already the perfect destination, just looking forward to a reunion with these little ones, as God intended they should be, fills my heart with such joy that I can barely contain it!
I have met so many spiritual heroes on this pro-life journey.  God has been very good to me!  Joan Andrews-Bell spent some time in Houston a few years ago at a time when I was just beginning to learn about the movement.  Joan's courageous peaceful protest on behalf of the unborn is awesome.  At a Catholic attorneys' event in Houston shortly after that, I was blessed with the opportunity to meet the late John Cardinal O'Connor.  What a blow to the pro-life movement Cardinal O'Connor's recent death constitutes!  As certain as I am that God's plan for him will not leave the unborn without some strong voice among the Church's bishops, it is hard to conceive of anyone filling his shoes.
Some years ago, I also had the extreme pleasure of meeting Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a relentless pro-life advocate/missionary/lecturer/author who is, in fact, a former abortionist.  I recommend highly that everyone read his autobiography,
The Hand of God, if you have not already done so.  In fact, if you have already read this fine book, get another copy and give it to a friend.  You can order this book and many other terrific pro-life books from Amazon.com.  I have added a link to Amazon.com on every page of my site to make ordering even easier.  By ordering directly from my link to Amazon.com, you will be helping me defray some of the cost of maintaining this site.  In other words, you will be helping me to help the unborn and getting some great reading at awesome prices at the same time!
Dr. Nathanson's story is the best argument there can ever be against killing an abortionist.  None of us knows what God can with a converted soul such as his.  Pro-lifers sometimes suggest that the scientist who could cure AIDS or cancer has already been aborted.  Well, I prefer to wonder how many unborn children might have died if Dr. Nathanson's work did not exist.
Most of my pro-life heroes, however, are not as well-known as Dr. Nathanson.  They are priests and ministers who are not afraid to preach the pro-life message of Holy Scripture and to counsel those who have strayed, in order to provide for their healing and to keep them in communion with the Church.  They are parents who quietly raise Godly children and do whatever they can to promote alternatives to abortion in their own communities.  They are grandparents who fight the evil of so-called "mercy killing" because they care about future generations.  They are nurses, doctors, teachers, lawyers, and other professionals who do their best to offer assistance and guidance to young people making choices regarding abortion, adoption, chastity, etc.  Please check out my pro-life "Honor Roll" on the previous page of this document for a list of some of these courageous people.
For anyone who may be reading this and thinking, "I can't do anything in my own little corner of the world that will have any real impact on these issues of life", I would
like to recommend a terrific book.  The book is
Closed: 99 Ways To Stop Abortion by Joe Scheidler, another old friend from the frontlines of the war against abortion.  Joe is the original "sidewalk counselor".  He has lovingly and persistently offered abortion alternatives to women entering "clinics" in Chicago for many years.  This book, which offers suggestions for fighting abortion on every level, is also available from Amazon.com.  If you can write a letter or make a phone call, you can save the lives of unborn children and their moms.  Order Joe's book and learn how to do it.  To learn more about Joe Scheidler and the organization he founded, click on the Pro-Life Action League.
There are many other books which I consider to be "required reading" for anyone who desires to learn about the pro-life movement.  Many, if not most of them, are available from Amazon.com.  Here is a partial list:
